Come si posiziona il nuovo fuoristrada rispetto alla nuova Land Rover Defender, alla Jeep Wrangler 4xe e alla Mercedes Classe G?

Ammettiamolo, anche se fuori dalla portata economica di molti di noi, quasi tutti abbiamo sofferto per l’uscita dai listini della Land Rover Defender, quella “vecchia”, quella con un design a prova del tempo e capace di far innamorare svariate generazioni. Certo il nuovo modello del marchio britannico ha stile da vendere, ma manca quella purezza che solo il modello precedente sapeva trasmettere.
Una storia destinata a finire negli archivi, se non fosse che, nel 2019, il miliardario proprietario dell’azienda chimica Ineos, Jim Ratcliffe, prese la decisione di ricrearne una nuova versione.
Ineos, peraltro, oltre a essere main sponsor della squadra ciclistica britannica Team Sky, è anche legata a doppio filo con il mondo dell’automobilismo, essendo sponsor – e proprietario al 33,3% – dalla stagione 2020 del team Mercedes in F1.
Ma torniamo a noi, il Grenadier, che prende il proprio nome dal pub londinese in cui è stato “concepito” da Sir Jim Ratcliff, durante i cinque anni di sviluppo, ha tenuto impegnati oltre 350 ingegneri.
Il risultato è concreto e il design da vero fuori strada trova riscontro anche nelle caratteristiche tecniche. La carrozzeria monoscocca è realizzata in acciaio zincato e alluminio, mentre il telaio non poteva non essere a longheroni a sezione scatolata spesso 3,5 mm. Nonostante il marchio sia inglese e la produzione avvenga nell’ex stabilimento Mercedes di Hambach, in Francia, c’è anche un po’ di Italia nel progetto. Gli assali, infatti, sono realizzati da Carraro, mentre l’impianto frenante, dotato di dischi da 316 all’anteriore e 305 al posteriore e capace di frenare una massa di 7 tonnellate, è stato affidato a Brembo.
Altre caratteristiche salienti: La Grenadier è dotata di riduttore a due velocità realizzato da Tremec, differenziale bloccabile centrale nel riduttore e due differenziali bloccabili all’anteriore e al posteriore. Se poi doveste essere di quelli che per lavare la carrozzeria si affidano ai guadi, con la Ineos potrete spingervi fino a 800 mm sott’acqua.
Ibrido? No, grazie. Sotto al cofano la Grenadier parla tedesco, grazie ai propulsori da 3.000 cc sei cilindri benzina e diesel realizzati da BMW.
Il prezzo per le due motorizzazioni è il medesimo, ma cambia la potenza: Se da una parte il propulsore a gasolio è in grado di sprigionare 249 CV, 37 in meno rispetto alla versione a benzina, il primo vanta una coppia di 550 Nm di coppia a 1.250 giri, mentre il secondo si accontenta di soli – si fa per dire – 450 Nm a 1.70 giri. Entrambi i motori, infine, lavorano con una trasmissione ZF.
Quando si entra nella Grenadier, la sensazione è quella di essere su un cacciabombardiere con leve e levette che azionano i vari comandi e che vanno a definire un abitacolo che è un buon mix tra spartanità e tecnologia. Non manca, infatti, un piccolo display per il conducente, abbinato a un sistema dell’infotainment da 12,3 pollici dotato di Apple CarPlay e Android Auto. Ovviamente, tra le varie schermate proposte, ce ne sono diverse pensate per l’offroad, così da avere tutto sotto controllo. Il vano di carico ha una capacità di 1.152 litri, ma se doveste scegliere la versione Utility Wagon da tre posti – certificata come veicolo commerciale – avrete spazio per un europallet standard.
